If you remember that evening at the Hollywood Canteen . . .

It was unique to the entertainment industry -- a place where only servicemen could go. A place where brave soldiers could dance with or share a soda with the movie stars they only dreamed of meeting.

Would you please tell us your story?

Don Ray and Neal Velgos from Southern California are putting together a documentary about the wonderful Hollywood Canteen.

If you or someone you know visited the Hollywood Canteen, please e-mail us or drop us a line:

I am a collector of W.W.II uniforms and other items. I recently purchased a 97th division uniform at an auction in New Berlin, PA. The only id with the uniform was the serial number stamped in the coat, pants and hat. The number is S3062. Is there any way that you can assist me in finding out who this uniform belonged to? I like to collect as much information as I can about each soldiers uniform that I have in my collection. Any help that you can offer would be greatly appreciated. DID YOU KNOW LT. DALE E. BOEHM
I am trying to surprise my father with some information about his army unit.  His name is Dale E. Boehm and he was a lieutenant in an infantry unit with the 97th Infantry Division., but I do not know which unit this was.  He may have received a field promotion.  I believe--and if I'm wrong it's solely my fault--that he lead an infantry assault when his unit was fighting in Czechoslovakia.  This was either at or near Pilsen, I believe.  He was wounded and received a Purple Heart.  He may have been wounded during this assault.  I would appreciate hearing from anybody in his unit who knew him back then.    My mail address, office number, and email address are:

HELP A CZECH HISTORIAN REGARDING THE 97TH
I´d like to ask you for a great help at an interesting matter. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Czech historian, who is interested about US Army in the Czechoslovakia 1945. I wrote for example (in Czech language) study "BLOODY 100th" (1986) about Air battle 100th Bombardment Group USAAF over Czech town Kováøská (11. 9. 1044) and study "LOST JEEP" about special US OSS group in Praha before Soviet troops arrived. For second study I have Historical prize of 50th anniversary of End WWII.

I compile now a theme "Combats of 97th Infantry Division US Army (Trident) in Cheb/Eger area". I´m interested everything about this division, because I was born in Cheb area. I have several copies US records about this combats (for example: Narrative of 387th Inf. operations in Czechoslovakia by Colonel W.D. Long). I seek now names of KIA and WIA soldiers of 97ID (name, rank, unit amd place of events) in Czechoslovakia and details of combat actions 3rd Bn 387th Inf and 2nd Bn 386th Inf (personal memories, photos etc.). Exist database of casualties 97th Infantry?

Your help is very important for my work and proof that American soldiers risked their lives for Czech independence during World War II.

I thank you in advance for any help

Yours faithfully

Are the following names meaning something to you?...........................................

Camp Lucky Strike
Camp Herbert Tareyton
Camp Philip Morris
Camp Old Gold
Camp Twenty Grand
Camp Pall Mall

I live in Normandy, 30 miles from what used to be the Camp Lucky Strike, 7 miles from what used to be the Camp Philip Morris, and 25 miles around were Camps Herbert Tareyton, Old Gold, Pall Mall and Twenty Grand. Camp Lucky Strike was certainly the most famous amongst the others because of the taxiways. These are still here and are used by the local aero club. There is now a project to render the Lucky Strike Camp its fame. We want to make a WWII museum, and a memorial to every division that went through this camp. We are looking for informations from the american side, photos, comments, veterans memories. We already have some but are unable to put any name on faces!  This project will soon be supported by a website and I will transmit the URL. Could you please help us on this project?

Thanks in advance
